CompuMedic users can gain quite a bit by upgrading to elligence. In addition to more frequent updates and user-requested enhancements, elligence provides a wealth of power and features that are not available in CompuMedic. Overview: CompuMedic vs elligence This document provides an overview of the main differences between elligence and CompuMedic. For a more in-depth analysis of the differences, please see Detailed Differences between elligence and CompuMedic. Although elligence contains many of the same general capabilities as CompuMedic, users are cautioned not to make any assumptions that features behave identically or that all CompuMedic features have a counterpart in elligence. Enhancements: elligence uses an MS SQL Server 2000 database instead of MS Access 97. This allows for more power, faster performance, a greater number of simultaneous users, and demotes database corruption to merely a theoretical possibility, not an eventual likelihood, as has proven to be the experience for some CompuMedic users. The entire elligence user interface now has a uniform look and feel, and is presented entirely under one window. Multiple windows may be opened and easily toggled between by clicking on a series of tabs at the top of the screen. Screens have been made more simple and intuitive and have better layouts and smoother keystroke navigation than in CompuMedic. All reports and billing screens have been made more intuitive and user-friendly; they are now presented to the user in the form of easy-to-use, easy-to-understand "Wizards." Billing pre-processing reports now separate the "problem claims" from "clean claims" in order to speed up the process of correcting problems before billing. elligence presents the "problem claims" in the form of Exceptions Reports that provide one-click hyperlink access to get to the screen needed to fix the problems. elligence makes it much easier to work with multiple databases; here a few examples: Forms and statement formats are now shared by all databases (though you may still use different formats in different databases if needed), so you will often only need to design or change a format once! Operators only need to be defined once for all databases, and are centrally managed, although you may still give operators different permissions for different databases if you wish. elligence can send and receive EDI files (Claims, AutoPost files, etc) for all databases, for all destinations at once, with a single click of a button! elligence provides much better performance than CompuMedic in reports and billing runs, especially when working with databases larger than 100mb. All Patient screens in elligence are presented as part of a single "Patient Folder" screen. Easily navigate from Demographics to Coverages to Illnesses, and so on! The Transaction Ledger in elligence has been vastly improved and enhanced: Easily reset a statement or claim (or batch of statements/claims), refund an unapplied credit or payment, or transfer responsibility on a charge, all from the Ledger! Insert your own notes into a Patient's Ledger! Expand both charges and payments to see their details and histories without ever leaving the Ledger! Management of Electronic Claim / Payment files is now as easy as managing your email. elligence stores these files in a series of folders: "Outbox", "Inbox", "Sent Items", "Deleted Items", etc. And, as we mentioned above, all it takes is a single button click to send and download your EDI files to and from their destinations! elligence has been designed to work over wide-area-networks or the Internet, all without the need for expensive third-party software. Install MS Internet Explorer 6 and the very small elligence Client program (350kb), and you can log in from home! Data security over wide-area connections however is not built into elligence. Please see Running elligence Safely Over the Internet for more important information on this subject. Portfolios in CompuMedic have been replaced by TimeSavers in elligence. TimeSavers can be used to schedule tasks that run during your off-hours, so that the results are waiting when you begin your day. Run a batch of reports, or even generate and send Electronic Claims, while you sleep! Insurance Tracers in CompuMedic have been replaced by a full-featured Collections Workflow module in elligence. Each case can be assigned to an operator, and then easily followed up on without any extra work. Electronic Eligibility Checking has been highly automated. When it runs in the background, you won't even have to think about it, but the information will be waiting there for you when you need it. Patient Labels have been expanded into an entire family of Patient Correspondence reports, which are designed to work with Microsoft Word. Receipts have been replaced by Walk-Out Statements, providing a customizable format and much greater functionality. What CompuMedic features will not be continued in elligence? Some CompuMedic features that were not particularly popular or useful have been discontinued. Scheduler Books - we have removed these in order to provide an easier user experience. New features available in the elligence Scheduler remove the necessity for Books. Provider Unit-Based Billing (allows you to specify a Unit Value for a procedure instead of billing by an actual dollar amount) Utility > Install Balances Charge Test Results Post-Op Messages Stand-Alone Treatment Plans - Treatment Plans in elligence are only available when associated with a Scheduler Appointment.
